A collection of statutes, treatises and cases dealing with disputes under various federal and state medical insurance plans.

ACA - Expansion of Medicaid Eligibility

At this point (6.6.2013), Florida has not elected to expand its Medicaid program. The basic parameters for Medicaid expansion are discussed in the following article.

Effective January 1, 2014, Medicaid will be expanded to include individuals between the ages of 19 and 65 with incomes up to 133% of the federal poverty limit. States have the right not to participate in the expansion but will give up the dollars set aside for that expansion.1Medicaid expansion does not affect people over the age of 65. Medicaid expansion does not affect ICP Medicaid (nursing home long-term care coverage) or Medicaid home and community based long-term care programs. Medicaid expansion will affect indigent people below age 65 who need health insurance and are not also eligible for Medicare. Medicare recipients (e.g., those who qualify by virtue of SSDI) will not be eligible for Medicaid through the expansion.
