Secondary sources are critical to effective research. Although they are not primary law the various materials discuss, explain, and critique the law. Because sports law encompases such a wide variety of legal issues it is important to start with secondary sources as primary sources may be too ambiguous at the begining stages of research. Treatises, encyclopedias and law reviews give a better outline of the law and can create a more sturdy frame work to further research.
