Florida Department of Revenue- Child Support
The Child Support Program's purpose is to help children get the financial support they need when it is not received from one or both parents. To accomplish this, we work directly with the families we serve and partner with state and federal agencies and private companies to carry out critical steps in the child support process.
U.S. Office of Child Support Enforcement
OCSE partners with federal, state, tribal and local governments and others to promote parental responsibility so that children receive support from both parents even when they live in separate household.

Legislative History

2009 Florida House Bill No. 467, Florida One Hundred Eleventh Regular Session Requires child support awards to end upon majority and, where appropriate, to account for revised child support guidelines based on remaining children owed support. Changes the standard for determining the amount of a child support award in cases where parents have a high income. Creates a rebuttable presumption that a person can earn minimum wage, and provides additional criteria for the establishment of an imputed income amount. Amends the child support formula to account for income tax consequences of children and their financial support. Allows a court to consider a situation where a child support award requires a parent to pay an amount that would lead to the parent falling below the poverty line. Reduces the 40% time sharing threshold for a child support award adjustment to 20%. Requires the court to require security and a reasonable rate of interest or otherwise recognize the time value of money if a deferred payment related to equitable distribution.
2010 Florida House Bill No. 277, Florida One Hundred Twelfth Regular Session This bill provides that all alimony awards, except for rehabilitative alimony, end upon the death of either party or the remarriage of the receiving spouse. In addition, this bill provides specifics regarding when each type of alimony may be modified or terminated
Florida Staff Analysis, H.B. 621, 4/13/2011 This bill provides that a parent’s activation, deployment, or temporary assignment to military service and the resulting temporary disruption to the child may not be the sole factor in a court’s decision to grant a petition for or modification of permanent time-sharing and parental responsibility.
Florida Staff Analysis, S.B. 904, 3/9/2009 The bill amends ch. 61, F.S., relating to dissolution of marriage and parental responsibility for minor children. The bill amends the definition, and allows the court to establish a with or without the use of a court-ordered recommendation. The bill also amends the definition o recommendation to allow not only a psychologist, but also a psychotherapist, guardian ad litem, or licensed mental health professional to make a recommendation.
