Florida Appellate Law and Sovereign Immunity: Florida Courts

by Gahodery K. Cambry

Introduction

Florida trial courts are called county courts (limited jurisdiction) or circuit courts (general jurisdiction). Cases from these courts may be appealed to the appellate courts called district courts of appeal (DCA). The highest court in Florida is the Florida Supreme Court.

Florida Supreme Court decisions are binding on all Florida courts. A District Court of Appeal's decision is binding on courts within that District, but such decisions are only persuasive for courts in other Districts. For more information visit http://www.flcourts.org/
