Diego Gil Guide: Secondary Sources

Immigration Law and Procedure

Secondary Sources

Secondary sources are sources that are one or more steps removed from the event that interprets and analyzes primary sources. In addition, secondary sources assist law students, professors, and attorneys in their legal research because it allows the person to explore other topics under the same section or subsection. Therefore, before you begin a research project, it is often helpful to have an overview of the topic, to familiarize yourself with the issues, and to learn which words are commonly used to describe the issue at hand.
Some type of secondary sources include: Textbooks, Journal Articles, Commentaries, and Encyclopedias
